Episodes 18-21

Ever wonder what the animals we talk about look like, or which episodes cover what animals? Find the answers you seek below! Our episode guides give a brief breakdown of each episode as well as links to the articles we discuss, our sources, and of course, pictures of the animals!

All pictures are either Public Domain or Stock photos unless otherwise noted.
Unfortunately we are not able to provide photos for every animal, especially the more obscure ones, due to not being able to obtain photos which don't violate copyright law. For any animals lacking a photo we remind you that Google is your friend.

Episode 18: The Podcast Returns!

Casey talks about some interesting animal interactions he observed in his garden, while Ali discusses her experience having COVID. Casey provides us with a new lesson in biology, this time on some lesser noticed invasive species. Ali also provides us with a lesson on household items that could be dangerous for your pets, before they discuss their Favorite African Vulture, the Egyptian Vulture and the Palm-Nut Vulture. Casey teaches us about our tiny mammalian Animal of the Week, the Kirk’s Dik-Dik, before closing the episode out by challenging Ali with some African themed trivia.

Episode 19: Felines, Finals, and Forever Homes

Casey starts this episode off by describing the traumatic stress that is finals week in university life, and Ali talks about her parents’ new pupper. Keeping with the doggo theme, Ali gives us a lesson on the essentials when you introduce a dog into your life before they switch it up and discuss their Favorite Small African Felines, the Serval and the Caracal. Casey continues with the kitty theme and teaches about the ferocious (or furr-ocious) Animal of the Week, the Black-Footed Cat. They conclude the episode with a challenge where they need to name as many animals as they can with a body part in their name within the allotted time.

Episode 20: A Plethora of Pups

Casey has a minor mental breakdown contemplating the future, and Ali reviews The Wings of Life giving it a rating of Safe. Casey rants about California’s decision to exclude invertebrates, and therefore insects, from being considered endangered species and thus denying them protection from the state, while Ali highlights another dog breed, the Schipperke. They have a discussion about their Favorite African Canines, the Ethiopian Wolf and the African Wild Dog, before Casey talks about the first amphibious Animal of the Week, the Golden Mantella. They wrap up the episode with another round of their ‘Cups’ game.

Episode 21: Christmas and a Conservation Wish

Casey kicks this episode off by talking about finding an itsy bitsy spider in his house, while Ali discusses how she is hopeful her cat and her parent’s dog will get along during her Christmas visit. Casey talks about his dream ecological vacation, and Ali delivers some good news from Australia, specifically the rediscovery of the Pygmy Possum which was feared to have been wiped out by the bush fires. To keep with the theme of the month, they discuss their Favorite Animals from the North Pole, the Walrus and the Narwhal, before Casey teaches about the extremely threatened Animal of the Week, the Giant Pangolin. Ali concludes the episode by challenging Casey to an animal related Christmas Quiz.
