Episodes 61-64

Ever wonder what the animals we talk about look like, or which episodes cover what animals? Find the answers you seek below! Our episode guides give a brief breakdown of each episode as well as links to the articles we discuss, our sources, and of course, pictures of the animals!

All pictures are either Public Domain or Stock photos unless otherwise noted.
Unfortunately we are not able to provide photos for every animal, especially the more obscure ones, due to not being able to obtain photos which don't violate copyright law. For any animals lacking a photo we remind you that Google is your friend.

Episode 61: Adorable and Awesome Africa

Casey kicks off the first episode of this month talking about seeing Gabriel Iglesias (FLUFFY!), and Ali talks about still being sick but enjoying an escape room and the San Diego Wild Animal Park (Safari Park) anyway. Casey talks about a scientific article that’s been circulating the news lately about tuskless elephants in Africa. Ali gives us an update on the situation with Pablo Escobar’s ‘Cocaine Hippos’ and how they are trying to manage them. They go on to discuss some of their Favorite African Reptiles, the Black Mamba and the Red-Headed Rock Agama. Casey educates us on our somewhat ironically named Animal of the Week, the Pygmy Hippo. The episode comes to a close with Ali challenging Casey to label a blank map of Africa with the correct countries.

Episode 62: Not What You'd Expect

Casey starts the episode off talking about everything he saw on his most recent snorkeling excursion, and Ali gives us her review of Secrets of Whales: Orca Dynasty giving it a rating of Mostly Safe. Casey gives us a report on how the situation for rhinos appears to be improving in Kenya, while Ali gives us an introduction to the members of the SFO Wag Brigade. The two then talk about their Favorite Animals Native to the Sahara Desert, the Desert Monitor and the Fennec Fox. Casey teaches about our deceptively canine looking Animal of the Week, the Aardwolf, before bringing the episode to a close by resurrecting the Africa Quiz to test Ali’s knowledge of the continent and its fantastic fauna.

Casey gives us a report on how the Avian Flu is affecting a species of cormorant in Africa, while Ali teaches us about a dog breed that originated from Africa, the Basenji. They then go on to talk about their favorite African Animals Commonly Kept as Pets, the Sulcata Tortoise and the Demason’s Cichlid. Casey educates us about our unique, and arboreal, Animal of the Week, the Foosa. Ali brings the episode to a close with a game where they must name as many famous dogs from movies within the allotted time.

Casey discusses an article about how the Komodo Dragon has been reclassified as endangered, while Ali gives us a report on the problems facing manatees in Florida, specifically a severe shortage of food. The two go on to talk about some of their Favorite Species of ‘Gazelle,’ the Dama Gazelle and the Gerenuk. Casey teaches us about our slimy Animal of the Week, the Taita Hills Caecilian.
